To provide a safe and nurturing, cost-free after-school experience for at-risk youth.

It is the goal of Kids’ Place to provide a place where every child is loved, respected and nurtured. A place, where each child is encouraged and challenged to become his or her best self. Dianna DiMartino, retired educator of Delmar-Harvard reflects on these efforts, “I feel your organization has helped the students not only academically but emotionally as well. The smiles on their faces when they know they are attending Kids’ Place lets me know they have found a place where they can feel loved.”

University United Methodist Church

Since 1998, Kids’ Place, an outreach mission and program of the University United Methodist Church, has provided a safe and nurturing after-school experience that includes nutrition and mentoring at no cost to families of at-risk children in the Delmar-Harvard neighborhood in University City. From a humble beginning of one afternoon a week with 22 children, 12 volunteers and $1,200 in donations, the program has grown to four afternoons and two evenings a week with 40 children and their families, four paid staff and sixty volunteers from nearby churches, synagogues and universities.

Kids’ Place offers quality free after school programming four days a week for students K-8th grade. The program operates on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-7:30 p.m. A snack is served each day and dinner is served on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Kids’ Place offers a one to two-week full day free summer camp during August. The camp is intentionally offered after summer school is completed so as not to interfere with the children’s continued academic achievement during the summer.

Currently, as a program of the church, Kids' Place's tax exempt status falls under UUMC's 501(c)(3). However, Kids' Place is governed by its own Board of Directors.

Kids’ Place thanks all of the generosity provided by the numerous organizations, foundations and individuals that supports its after-school programming.
